To celebrate World Book Day, Acre View spent the week thoroughly immersed in the literacy world. As a school, we are passionate about reading for pleasure, as well as for learning. There are few things as powerful as regularly reading to a child. It creates comfort and reassurance, increases confidence and security as well as helping the children to relax. Giving a child the time and full attention needed to read tells them that they matter to us. Not only that, it builds their vocabulary, feeds their imagination and can even improve their sleeping patterns if a bedtime story is incorporated into their routine.
To help cement the joy of reading, we filled the week with reading activities throughout the whole school, helping the children to gain badges at the end of the week for each challenge completed.
