2 The View What a fantastic spring term it has been! We have so many exciting stories to share with you about the amazing learning, memorable trips, inspiring visitors, and wonderful experiences that have taken place over the spring term. It has been a joy to see our pupils engaging, exploring, and making fantastic progress in all areas of their learning. A huge thank you to all our parents and carers for your continued support. Whether it’s attending parents’ evening, taking part in workshops, or joining us for ‘Stay and Read’ sessions, your involvement makes such a difference to our school community. We truly appreciate the time and effort you give to support your child’s learning. I also want to take a moment to recognise our incredible staff team. Their dedication, hard work, and commitment to providing the best possible education and care for our pupils is truly inspiring. Every day, they go above and beyond to create a nurturing and engaging environment where every child can thrive. We are so lucky to have such a fantastic team supporting our children. We’d also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of good attendance. Every school day counts, and being in school regularly helps your child make the most of all the wonderful opportunities on offer. Finally, a special thank you to Lia Shorrocks for putting together this fantastic newsletter – we hope you enjoy reading all about the brilliant things happening at our school! Welcome message from our Headteacher

We are absolutely thrilled to share some exciting news about our school’s outdoor area… Welcome to Playful Pathways A fantastic new playground has been built, providing our children with physical and active play that nurtures their wellbeing and social skills; accessible for all children to use every day. This vibrant space allows pupils to explore and unleash their creativity, with an array of engaging play and learning equipment; our children are enjoying every moment of it. They’re having a brilliant time giggling on the swings, climbing the trim trail, and taking part in wonderfully messy adventures in the mud kitchen. This has quickly become a favourite spot for imaginative play, with staff changing the theme weekly, from a chef’s kitchen to a scientist’s lab. The sandpit has also become a hot spot for sensory exploration, although sometimes it is just nice to relax and dig your toes in the sand. “Everyone is playing well together and it’s made playtime more fun.” Demi-Leigh, Acre View School Council team The wheels on the bus go round and round… Adding to the excitement around the school, we are delighted to announce the arrival of our shiny new minibus. This addition will significantly widen our educational programme, giving our children access to a range of new activities that extend beyond the classroom into the community. So far, we have already have organised weekly outings such as swimming lessons with Eagle class, The Sensory Hive with Wren class, forest trips with Starling class; as well as delightful day trips to Acorn Farm, educational trips to the Mosque, book hunting at the local library and wellbeing trips to the park. We can’t wait to see all the new adventures and wonderful memories that lie ahead… Whole School Updates... 3

Christmas Wrap Up... 4 Sparkle and shine... This year’s Christmas activities were simply magical, filled with laughter and festive cheer, spread all around the school. We kicked off the celebrations with our enchanting nativity play, where each child truly shone like the brightest star. The narration was wonderful, immersing everyone in the heart-warming story, while the impressive acting captivated the audience. The children (and staff!) sang their hearts out, and many even showcased energetic dance performances that had everyone clapping along. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house by the end of the performance. As if that wasn’t enough to spread joy, Father Christmas and his jolly elf made a special surprise visit. The children’s eyes lit up with excitement as they eagerly greeted them, filling each class with cheerful smiles. A special thank you to our Father Christmas, who handed out presents with genuine warmth, ensuring that every child felt the joy of the season. Each class also dedicated some time to designing delightful Christmas crafts, where the children created stunning decorations and personalised cards, pouring their creativity into every project. Each classroomwas alive with chatter and enthusiasm as they exchanged ideas and showcased their creations. We all had a wonderful time spreading Christmas cheer around Acre View and creating lasting memories.

Going for gold… At the end of each week, our classes have been celebrating their awards. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important, so this term we have introduced weekly athletic activities into our curriculum. Alongside our already jam-packed P.E. lessons, find out more about our judo, dance and swimming sessions... The children in years 3-6 are truly thriving during our judo sessions each week, where they are not only learning new sports skills but also enhancing their listening and team working abilities. It has been wonderful to see them embrace the discipline of judo while having such a great time together. In their weekly dance sessions with Glenn, the children are expressing their creativity and developing a sense of rhythm. Their enthusiasm is contagious, with many staff members also joining in. The ribbons were a huge success, creating movement in even the most reluctant dancers! Eagle class are having a great time going swimming every Fridaymorning, where they are gaining confidence in the water and improving their swimming techniques. Their behaviour on each trip out has also been nothing short of exemplary, being wonderful ambassadors for our school. It has been a joy to watch the children engage and enjoy themselves throughout these activities. We hope to add even more sports to our timetable for the children to participate in during the coming weeks. We can hardly wait to see them continue to grow, learn, and enjoy all that sport has to offer. 5 Sports Update...

6 Music day... Acre View is alive, with the sound of music… What a fantastic time we had for Music Day, when all the classes had the opportunity to experience the joy of music. Bill and Andy, from B&A Music school, joined us for the day, bringing their incredible talent and enthusiasm for musical education. Each class participated in individual workshops led by these inspiring musicians, who introduced new instruments and engaged the children in creative activities. The excitement was infectious as children played musical fruit, bounced tuneful balls to each other and created new sounds and melodies. Music rang through the halls, and all the children left with big smiles. It was truly a memorable experience for all. Do we have an Acre View band in our future? Only time will tell! Art attack… We were thrilled when our children were invited to participate in a local community art exhibition, organised by the Maghull and Lydiate Art Group. Alongside other local schools, this fantastic event showcased the incredible creativity of our young artists, allowing them to express their individual talents and artistic style. The exhibition was held at The Lydiate Community Centre, just next door to our school, with artwork on display for the public to enjoy over the weekend. We had a sneak peak of some of their artwork before they were put on display and were beyond proud of their talents and our school display. Well done to all our budding artists! Creative Arts Update...

Xin Nian Hao… We had an absolutely fantastic time celebrating Chinese New Year… Mrs Cui, Mandarin Teacher fromWest Kirby School & College, joined us to lead our Lunar NewYear celebrations. She brought a wonderful energy that was contagious throughout the day, sharing understanding and experiences of another culture and it’s traditions. During the day, pupils were introduced to Chinese calligraphy, learning about its significance and cultural roots. Everyone eagerly took turns at writing, which turned out to be both challenging and fun. Next, we delved into the intricate art of paper cutting, with scissors in hand, we crafted beautiful designs that symbolised prosperity and happiness. The room quickly filled with colourful decorations that we proudly displayed. The classrooms looked amazing. Mrs Cui also helped the children to create delightful red pockets, each one thoughtfully decorated as good luck gifts for friends and family. The ‘chopsticks challenge’ was the highlight of the day for everyone, providing much laughter and friendly competition. It was wonderful to see howmany children could use their chopsticks with ease. After that, we all indulged in carefully chosen cultural dishes for the food tasting session; from seaweed and dumplings to sweet cookies and mochi. Each bite was a delight. It was brilliant to see our children stepping outside of their comfort zone. The laughter continued as we played the hilarious game of pinning a tongue on the snake, a game the children thoroughly enjoyed. Mrs Cui finished the day’s festivities with a spirited dragon dance that had everyone eagerly joining in. The atmosphere for the whole day was electric, filled with joy and excitement. Meet the team.. 8 Meet Mr Flanagan, Chair of the Board The Charity, West Kirby Educational Trust, runs our two schools Acre View Primary School, opened in 2024 and West Kirby School and College (formerly called West Kirby Residential School), founded in the 1880s and incorporated in 1924! Our Charity has a Board of Trustees and each school has a Board of Governors. Our Trustees and Governors are volunteers who work together with Sian Thomas, CEO, the Headteachers and their staff, in helping our pupils to get the best possible education. Mr Flanagan, Chair of Governors at Acre View Primary, leads and oversees the work of our School Board. He plays an important role at our school, and on behalf of West Kirby Educational Trust. We asked Mr Flanagan to tell us a bit more about himself… As Chair of Acre View Board of Governors, my main role is to support your Head Teacher, Mrs Wynne and her staff, to make Acre View a place where everyone feels safe and supported, in order to give the best possible education. I used to work in learning disability services, am a qualified Social Worker and worked in social care for over 40 years before I retired in 2019. I am retired, but am still very busy. I have a granddaughter with Downs Syndrome, who at the time was having difficulties in her school. With this in mind, I wanted to make sure that other children did not go through the same experiences. My hobbies and interests: I have an allotment where I try to grow as much fruit and vegetables as I need, play golf very badly, like sport, to cook and go out with friends and am an Everton supporter. I like traveling a lot to new and different places, a highlight from my recent trip to Australia and the South Pacific islands was walking on the ocean floor. I have 4 adult children and I have 5 grandchildren, 2 boys and 3 girls who get a t-shirt from me every time I go away. I play Nintendo online with one of my grandsons, but he always beats me at Mario Kart or football! Miss Mallon tells us more about her role at Acre View Primary… Occupational Therapists (OTs) provide a holistic approach to meeting children’s needs, which helps them access important and meaningful activities (occupations) in their life. This means that we look at the child as a whole, not just their presenting need. As a school-based Occupational Therapist at Acre View, we workwithin the school, alongside the education team. We look specifically at how our children access school and learning, and support them to participate in and successfully complete activities (school based occupations) they want or need to do, for example writing, moving around the building, sport, playing etc. At Acre View Occupational Therapy is delivered through a ‘three-tiered approach’: • Universal approaches (school-wide) • Targeted approaches (small groups/classes) • Individualised approaches (bespoke interventions) My favourite part of the job is joining child-led play to get to know the child and their interests, wants and needs. This helps to develop a therapy plan that they would enjoy and engage with. If you see a pupil having a scooter board race, I might be assessing their motor skills, sensory needs or functional ability. Once we understand a child’s current needs, we might provide recommendations to help them develop their skills, or find supportive strategies/adaptations that make their occupations as accessible as possible. We hope you found this interesting and useful to understanding how our Clinical Services team supports our children. 9 Meet Emma Mallon, Occupational Therapist agan nd e with ends ers Card Name: Miss Mallon Likes: Walks on the beach, travelling, music Dislikes: Bananas Movie: Wreck it Ralph TV Show Anything that makes me laugh Pets: No pets, but would love lots and lots of dogs! 10 World Book Day celebration week... Author visit, Stephen Waterhouse We started our weekwith a visit from an amazing Author and Illustrator, Stephen Waterhouse. Stephen brought his many books, pictures and paints with him so all the children could enjoy them. Each class had the opportunity to design their own character, from runaway fruit to superheros. He then worked with the children to develop their writing skill and create a story about the characters. Stephen spoke about becoming an Author, travelling the world and designing advent calendars for chocolate companies. He was very impressed by the children’s imaginative ideas as well as their illustrations, even saying “We could well have another Roald Dahl or Julia Donaldson in our midst.” To celebrate World Book Day, Acre View spent the week thoroughly immersed in the literacy world. As a school, we are passionate about reading for pleasure, as well as for learning. There are few things as powerful as regularly reading to a child. It creates comfort and reassurance, increases confidence and security as well as helping the children to relax. Giving a child the time and full attention needed to read tells them that they matter to us. Not only that, it builds their vocabulary, feeds their imagination and can even improve their sleeping patterns if a bedtime story is incorporated into their routine. To help cement the joy of reading, we filled the week with reading activities throughout the whole school, helping the children to gain badges at the end of the week for each challenge completed. “ The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.” - Dr. Seuss

11 World Book Day... Can you guess our masked reader? On the last day of our book celebration, we started the day with our very own Masked Reader challenge. A member of our team had recorded themselves reading part of a book, while wearing a mask to hide their true identity. The children had so much fun, using their own critical thinking and leading questions to unmask the reader. Library visits During the week, our older classes enjoyed a trip to our local library, where they were able to explore the books on offer, choose something to read or just listen to a story being read to them. This marked a wonderful start to all our children’s reading journeys, with the librarian showing them how they can open their own library card, to use at any of the libraries in Sefton. We are hoping library visits will be a wonderful addition to our weekly school trips off site, helping the children’s confidence outside of school develop naturally. ‘Stay and Read’ parent carer afternoon To end an amazing week, we invited the parents of year 1 & 2 children in for our first ‘Stay and Read’ afternoon. This wonderful event, organised by Miss Goodwin and Mrs Jones, saw parents reading with their children in their classrooms, letting the children show the parents the books they had in class and sharing the joy of reading for pleasure. Each child also took a World Book Day embroidered badge home with them, to commemorate such a special week. All in all, our World Book Day celebrations were a huge success, with the children, parents and teachers all coming together to engage in amazing activities that will instill a love of reading for years to come. Another highlight of our emerging school calendar. World Book Day On World Book Day, the whole school came dressed as their favourite book character or in their pyjamas, ready for a bedtime story. We saw The TigerWho Came to Tea, Winnie the Pooh and The Rainbow Fish floating around the corridors. Each class included a story time in their day, where they gathered together to read a book and talk about why it is their favourite. Our classes even joined a World Book Day special live stream fromWest Kirby School and College, listening to storyteller John Row sharing his captivating and animated tales.

Wren... This term, the Wren class topic has been ‘Toys’. We have been exploring different toys and how they work, looking at different types and thinking about what our favourites are. We read books that helped us with this learning; ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?’ and ‘Whatever Next’, all of which gave us lots of opportunities to play. We role played scenes from each story and used toy puppets to support our learning. It has been so lovely to see the children’s play skills develop – well done boys! Another exciting thing to happen this term has been our weekly trips to The Sensory Hive. It has been a pleasure to see the children’s independence and confidence grow during these visits and we are so proud of how well they have handled the change to their routine. We are looking forward to our next topic ‘Under the Sea’, where we will be learning about all things aquatic. I am sure there will be so much exciting learning to take place and we can’t wait to share that with you all. Ms Goodwin It has been a busy spring term at Acre View. Our classes shared their news, activities and highlights for you to find out what they’ve been up to… Robin... This term, our topic has been ‘Let’s Play’, where the children have had the chance to explore a wonderful mix of toys – both old and new. We’ve added a toy shop to our classroom, and it’s been amazing to see the children embrace different roles and engage in imaginative play. As part of the topic, the children have also tapped into their creativity by designing and making their own toys. They’ve sewn animals and created pop-up animal puppets. In Science, we have been learning about animals and the different groups that they belong to. Our class has been keen to discover new animals and categorise them into different groups. Outside the classroom, the children have absolutely loved our new outdoor area. From getting creative in the mud kitchen to enjoying time together on the basket swings, it’s been a great place for play! My favourite thing about this half term has been the introduction of dance sessions on a Wednesday morning. The children have enjoyed dancing to new songs and learning some routines. It’s been lovely to watch them express themselves through movement in their own unique ways. Starling... This term, Starling class has been studying one of our favourite Science topics, ‘Animals’, learning all about mammals, reptiles, fish and amphibians. With this in mind, we welcomed a newmember to our class, Bertie the dog. Bertie is much loved within the whole school community. Our trip to Acorn Farmwas a valuable learning experience, helping to reinforce our learning in a real-world setting. We all thoroughly enjoyed the day. Watching the wonderful staff collect eggs from the chickens and ducks, shovel the hay and muck out a very pongy pig pen, gave Starling class a deeper appreciation of farm life and the production of the food we eat, especially on a chilly winter’s day. During the trip, the children proved to be very helpful, helping to feed a noisy sheep, the curious feather footed chickens and a very greedy goat called Mavis. We even got to hold an adorable week-old Saddleback piglet that we named ‘Pig’. It was a wonderful first trip out on the new minibus for Starling class! In other news, the class enjoyed a virtual trip to China via Google Earth before joining Mrs Cui fromWest Kirby School in celebrating Chinese NewYear. Starling class loved sampling the delicious Chinese sweets, listening to Cui tell stories and dress up as the dragon and dancing to welcome in the new year of the snake! Mrs Clarke FIRE ASSEMBLY POINT STARLING CLASS FIRE ASSEMBLY POINT EAGLE CLASS 13 Kingfisher... Kingfisher class has had an amazing term, delving into our ‘Toys and Games’ theme. The children explored the fascinating history of toys, discovered games from various cultures, and had lots of fun playing together as a group. We celebrated the Lunar NewYear with a special visitor, Yan. The children learned Chinese numbers, tasted traditional foods, and made beautiful lanterns. It was a fantastic way for them to learn about different cultures and traditions. Our new play area has been a hit! We have enjoyed playing on the swings, cooking up fun in the mud kitchen, and building castles in the sand pit. We’ve also had nature walks and scavenger hunts, which helped the children develop their observation skills and love for the outdoors. We have been painting with natural materials and talking about how nature makes us feel. In Science, we focused on materials. The children conducted exciting experiments to learn about the properties of materials, including floating and sinking as well as freezing and melting. Their curiosity and scientific skills shone through as they explored the properties of different materials. Mrs Jones FIRE ASSEMBLY POINT KINGFISHER CLASS

Owl... This term, Owl class has been thoroughly immersed in the delightful book “The Bog Baby,”, where we have discovered the habitats of our local wildlife. Their creativity has truly shone as they also crafted their very own bog babies using AI technology - these creations are simply fantastic. To further develop their understanding, the class has also enjoyed making a bog baby habitat, allowing them to connect playfully with nature. Owl class has also been learning how to make a fruit salad, combining healthy eating with fun culinary skills. Our newweekly judo classes and dance lessons have also been an absolute hit, promoting both physical fitness and teamwork in a lively and enjoyable manner. Our new playground has proven to be a tremendous success, providing an excellent space for the children to engage in active play, whether in the sandpit or on the swings with their friends. I hope the children enjoy their time off after an extremely busy term! Mr Storey 14 Class Updates... FIRE ASSEMBLY POINT OWL CLASS FIRE ASSEMBLY POINT WREN CLASS Eagle... Eagle class has had an exciting spring term. In PE, we took up the sport of Judo which is helping us with our focus and determination. We also became the very first Acre View class to go swimming and are enjoying our lessons each Friday. We are loving our new class novel, The Wild Robot (#nospoilers if you’ve seen the film!) and our English unit is based around the mythical story of Arthur and the Golden Rope. Having finished our unit on natural disasters, we’re now exploring the USA’s past, present and future in our latest Learning Means the World module. We have also been making circuits and testing materials for their conductivity in our Science lessons. Well done, Eagle class! Mr Forbes FIRE ASSEMBLY POINT EAGLE CLASS

Class trips... At Acre View class trips form part of enrichment, developing pupil’s learning beyond the curriculum. We aim to give our children new experiences and opportunities, and of course make school life more fun; both within and outside of school. This helps develop cultural awareness, appreciation and understanding of the world around us, as well as developing pupil’s character, confidence, independence and social skills. This termwith our newmini-bus we’ve been able to venture out into the community… Trip to Acorn Farm Starling class What an exciting day for the Sta rling class as they embarked on their much-anticipated trip to the farm. The smiles were conta gious as they boarded the minib us, ready for a morning filled wi th adventure and discovery. One of their highlights was feedi ng all the animals. The children were very brave, offering hay to th e gentle goats and sheep. The excitemen t of holding a ten-day-old piglet was unforgettable; its warmth and tiny snorts brought smiles to every fa ce. The children showed such ca re, cradling the little bundle with warmth and love. To top off our adventur e, they explored the farm playgro und, pretending to be farmers in the climb-on tractor. It was a truly memorable day , filled with learning and joy. The Sensory Hive adventure Wren class Since January, Wren class has spent one morning a week at The Sensory Hive, a local community organisation offering services in occupational therapy and sensory integration. Their sensory gym is a multi-sensory space with equipment to suit all of our children. The design supports the development of the sensory system and promotes regulation, gross motor skills including balance, bilateral co-ordination and hand-eye co-ordination. TheWren team also spend time focusing on building the children’s confidence and independence, especiallywhen visiting new places. Each space is fun and engaging for the children, and they have adapted to this weekly trip amazingly, looking forward to going on the minibus each time. 15

The View Our School Councillors and Eco Warriors... We are thrilled to announce the appointment of our first successful pupils to their new roles of School Council Members and Eco Warriors. These individuals were nominated by their peers and staff, reflecting their commitment to participate in developing our school community. The elected members of the School Council are Demi, Mia, Reuben and Darcie, who will play a crucial role as school ambassadors in shaping future school rules and expressing howwe can better support pupil needs. Their voices will be instrumental in creating a vibrant and inclusive learning environment. Their first role will be to help us nominate a charity the school supports for the year, with the donations and fundraising from any charity events. We will announce our chosen charity on our Facebook page. Meanwhile, our team of Eco Warriors (who will soon be announced ), are set to lead the charge towards a more sustainable future. They will champion initiatives such as classroom recycling and promoting the reuse of materials, aiming to reduce waste within our school. First on their agenda will be recycling around our school. Reusing cardboard, composting tea bags and helping the environment one step at a time. We eagerly anticipate the innovative ideas and enthusiastic energy these future leaders will bring to our school, fostering a community that values both pupil well-being and environmental stewardship. Our new School Council and Eco Warrior teams play a part in personal development at Acre View; giving our pupils the opportunity to share their voice, and develop teamwork, leadership and independence skills. 16

At our school, we understand that every child’s journey in Mathematics is unique, that’s why we use the White Rose scheme of work to help guide their learning. This approach ensures we meet each child where they are and build their skills from a solid foundation. The Acre View Primary School Newsletter Focus on Maths with Miss Bennett One of the key areas of focus in our Maths curriculum is fluency. Repetition and practice are essential in helping our pupils consolidate their learning and strengthen their understanding of core concepts. Through regular, small burst sessions, we aim to secure the basics of number sense, calculation, and measures. These foundational skills are crucial for our children to confidently apply their mathematical knowledge in everyday situations, whether at home, in the community, or in future learning. We are dedicated to ensuring that all pupils not only develop strong numeracy skills but also build the confidence to use them independently. By providing the necessary repetition and support, we aim to make Mathematics a subject that feels accessible and enjoyable, helping our pupils experience success in both school and beyond. 18 When I grow up, I want to be… After meeting an Author and Illustrator during our World Book Day week celebrations, the children then had an opportunity to think about their own future careers during our first ever Careers Week. To guide them on their journey, we invited several different professionals into school to talk about their jobs and share with the children what a day in their life looks like. We were lucky to have visits from the local Police, safari park, horticulture society and a sports coach, as well as many others. Staffwere also on hand to talk about the many different roles within our school. There was something for everyone to be excited about. Here’s what we got up to over the week… The first professionals to come to our school were ICT hi-impact, our working partners, dedicated to offering dynamic, curriculumaligned workshops that inspire students in the fields of Computing, Design Technology and Science. They came equipped with a green screen, to immerse the children in their dream careers and create realistic scenes for them to fully see themselves in the role. Local gardener, Shaun Williams, also joined us for the afternoon, working with the children to plant their own new seedlings and helping us to recognise the many different trees growing around our outdoor space. On Thursday, Community Multi Sports Coaching came in and showed us different exercises, such as various ball games and gymnastics, and how athletic coaching can be a great career option. Ray and his team set up various sporting challenges around the hall for all the children to have a go at. For our final day, Chris Scullion, local Scientist and also Media Consultant, SpectrumVideo, joined us for an interactive session. Chris set up amazing experiments for the classes and talked about careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). The children learnt all about space and the planets, building their own rockets and even getting to dress up as an astronaut! A big thank you to all of our working partners for making this week a success. We hope that all the children gained useful knowledge for their futures and are inspired to reach for the stars. Careers Week...

Attendance update... A friendly reminder from our Attendance Team… Our target for school attendance is 96%. Good attendance is key to your child’s success, enhancing both their academic performance and social skills, which are vital for their future. Regular attendance not only boosts educational outcomes but also prepares them for the workplace. It’s important that your child attends school every day unless unavoidable. If your child is absent, please inform us as soon as possible by leaving a message with the school office or completing the ‘Absence Reporting Form’ on the school website before 8:45am each day. If no reason for absence is provided, we will follow up with a phone call as part of our safeguarding procedures. In case of medical or other appointments, please ensure these are scheduled outside of school hours when possible. If an absence during school hours is necessary, ensure you notify the teacher in advance and that your child is signed out at the office on leaving school. Thank you for supporting us in ensuring your child’s success. Mr Storey and Mrs Smith Safeguarding & Attendance Team Coffee Morning... A delightful success!
